Stripes

Stripes have been in for a while now and are just becoming more and more popular in my opinion.   The classic striped shirt as we know it is called the Breton shirt which was introduced as a uniform for the French navy in 1858. Later on it became more of a working garment for the mariners. Inspired by the french sailors, Coco Chanel added the design to her collection in 1917 and introduced a working class garment as a high fashion item. Some of the style icons that wore the shirts and made it famous were Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and James Dean. Many brands have been inspired and have included the classic striped shirt as standard item in their collections, like the Danish brand Mads Nørregaard, but the most famous one to do so is probably Jean Paul Gaultier.

Today the selection of clothing with stripes is endless, this season I see more items with coloured stripes. I prefer the classic blue stripes, and here are some of my favourites ...
