Fall/winter

As I took the weekend off to visit my new nephew (and rest off the family) in Iceland. I suddenly had three hours of flight time to kill and what better way to do that then discover the latest trends - just me and my magazines.

The first thing that catches my eyes as I scroll through the fall/winter collections is the sweater scarf, I find it a bit odd to just take a sweater and roll it around your neck but it seems that a numbers of brands have elaborated this trend in to their fashion shows and many of the fashion blogs I´m reading are giving it positive reviews.

And you know what, somehow it just works, it is stylish and elegant. Like this every day look from Christophe Lemaire. The Sweater scarf gives the outfit a little edge.

And of course you can't talk about fall/winter collection without mentioning all the coats and the cosy sweaters. The trend this year is oversized, the bigger the better. And even though I prefer items that show more feminine lines, I have become a sucker for big, juicy sweaters that you can wrap your self into on a cold winter evening. The coats this year are no exception, big, comfortable, little bit 80's theme, come in all kinds of colors, patterns and textiles - I love them all.

Here are some off my favourites.

From Samsø & Samsø

From Vila

From Day Birger et Mikkelsen

From Tiger of Sweden - this one is going on my christmas list ;)

Happy Birthday

It's my birthday - 34 years old!!! I decided many years ago that I'm alway going to be happy about my current age and wear it proudly.  Something that I learned form my mother - she is 71 years old and embraces her age and her life. As I grow older I have discovered that life only gets better and better. I have achieved more peace in my soul and gotten to know me and the things I stand for and believe in. It´s a privilege to grow older and live life to the fullest.
I love birthdays and today was no exception!

The watch from Marc by marc Jacobs was a gift form my husband.

Sweater dress form Moss Copenhagen from my girls - absolutely love it!

Celebrating birthday at work with the a danish flag and a cake.

I got this beautiful neckless form my employer - it´s form Amust Crystal

They have so many beautiful items, the style is simple and casual but yet gives a great contrast to your every day look.  I will for sure buy more of their products.
Celebrating birthday with family at our local Italian restaurant. I´m talking on the phone with my dearest sister in law in Atlanta Georgia.
And of course my favourite Ice cream for a late night snack :)

My favorite items

As this blog is called In Alda's closet I want to share with you some of my own favourite items.

My Nike Free sneakers - what a genius invention. They are so comfortable and I absolutely love all the bright and happy colours they come in. These I bought in New York earlier this month, but I also have one pair from last year in bright coral colour. I wear them with jeans, shorts, casual dresses - they really give the outfit something extra because of the colour.

My Gucci bag. I got it form my husband when I lost 20 kg. The deal was if I could get the weight off I would get to spend a certain amount of money on what ever I wanted. I just knew it had to be something special, something I wouldn't normally allow my self to buy.

This oversized sweater is designed by an Icelandic designer called Andrea and her brand is simply called AndreA. She has a small store in Hafnafjörður, Iceland, which is called AndreA boutique.

They have so much great stuff and their new fall collections is filled with fur coats, oversized ponchos, cardigans and elegant long dresses. You can check it out at there webpage www.andrea.is

I am totaly in love with this sweater. I wear it all the time at home as it is so cosy and warm. I have also worn it to work with just a pair of black leggings.

My Sif Jacobs jewlery. Sif is an Icelandic jewellery designer with her home base in Copenhagen. Her jewellery is simple but yet they stand out and give that bling effect without going over the top. I have many off her items but these two are my favourites and I wear the bracelet almost every day.
My AndreA scarf. AndreA is well known for her beautiful and colourful scarfs with the most amazing patterns.

My Christmas dress from last year. It´s a silk dress with a lace sleeves form Day et. Mikkelsen. A danish design - one of my favourite brands. Their design is always so elegant and feminine with a lot of details.

Their casual line is called 2nd day which has more edge and little bit of biker style.

Check out there collections at www.day.dk
A see-through shirt is a must have in every wardrobe. I bought this one last year when breast pockets were in - I really like it as I think it gives something extra for an otherwise a plan shirt. The brand is mbyM.

Every shoe fanatic like myself has to have at least one pair of Christian Louboutin. Let just say that I hope to own more in the future!

As a sport freak I have to include my favourite sport tops from Under Armour - I got one in every colour :)

Instagram

Recently I read an article in Costume, a danish fashion magazine, called Join the club INSTA-SHOPPING. The article is about how you can use Instagram for making some great purchases on one hand and on the other hand if you are cleaning out you closet and have some good items for sale — post it on Instagram.

I admit I have not been a great Instagram user so far but the article got me curious. So one late night this week I sat down to discover Instagram. I was pleasantly surprised, in the first place there are so many stores, brands and fashion idols you can follow and get news about their latest collections, trends, etc.

Few of the sites I started following are:

@thehouseonline — here you can buy among other things 2nd hand Louboutin shoes
@christianesm - Christine Schaumburg Müller, Danish TV host and an actress and has been selected to be one of Denmark's best dressed women.

and few of my favourite brands
@2nddaypage
@bymalenebirger
@numph_dk

Then also by searching hashtags like #forsale #shop #buy you can find a lot of great 2nd hand items. But be patient as there are a lot of not so interesting stuff fore sale on Instagram as well.

The article mentions a webpage hashb.ag that can help you in your search for just the right items for you. On the page you can search more specific words and when you have found your new fabulous shoes, jackets or braclets the webpages lead you to the sellers Instagram profile.

But the article also emphasises that you should be careful when you do your shopping through Instagram as there is no guarantee when you are making a deal with a private person.

So far I have not used Instagram to buy anything yet, but I have put several things for sale. I will make sure to tell you all about how that will turn out.

Strandgårdsbutikken

Few weeks ago one of my oldest and dearest friends and best shopping partner Rakel told me about this really cool store she found by accident on Facebook and of course knowing me she told me to check it out. It is called Strandgårdsbutikken and is located 20 km west of Copenhagen in a little suburb town called Smørum. And it's only open friday, saturday and sunday. The housing in an old barn that is divided in to two rooms, where you will find a great selections off clothes, accessories and home design items.

Strandgårdsbutikken is really good at using Facebook to promote their selection and sale items and I knew right away that I had to visit the store. Finally today Rakel and I left our husbands and kids behind and took the half a hour drive out to the country site.

As an extra bonus there was a great flee market in the yard in front of the barn as we arrived, where regular customers of Strandgårdsbutikken where selling 2nd hand items from the store.
As you enter the barn the attmosephere is cosy and warm and you get the feeling of casual style but fashionable and a little bit luxurious. The selection consist off brands like Moss Copenhagen, Lolly Laundry and Basic apparel.

After one and half hour of browsing, trying on items, getting different sizes, different color, browsing some more and ruffled hair the result of this day of shopping came down to this sweater and dress with two front pockets form Basic apparel.

7 years married to the love of my live

7 years anniversary is called a wool anniversary. Got these beautiful wool pillows from HAY from my husband💕

New York

As our trip to New York was the inspiration for this blog I think it is appropriate to mention all the pearls I discovered as I was over there.

Shopping wise I just fell in love with Soho, so many cool shops, cafés and galleries - I am absolutely not done with discovering that part of the city.  My advice for you is just to go to Soho, not looking for any thing in particular and just walk around and let the neighborhood surprise you.

But I have to say the best discovery of this trip was Urban Outfitters at 34th street — next to Macy´s. What a cool store with so many great items, both cloths, shoes and home design. I bought this awesome warm and cosy sweater, intended for the winter. And the best thing is that I just discovered that the Urban Outfitters have a store in Copenhagen - whoop whoop — at Østergade 42 B. I definitely have to check that out :)

I can't talk about New York without mentioning the restaurants. I have chosen my three favorite ones from our trip.

Spice Market Fusion Asian kitchen, really good food, rich flavor and great surroundings.

Ellen´s stardust Diner the home of the singing waitresses. We had breakfast here two times, the food is an all american diner style, but the concept of the restaurant is so cool. All the waitresses are singers trying to get on to Broadway, the street that is staring them in the face all day long as they are serving pancakes and orange juice while singing. The management put up a program to support the waiters in getting extra singing and dancing lessons. So few times a shift guest are asked to support the program by giving few extra dollars. It is not obligated to do so, but the singers are so talented and you have such a great time that you won't hesitate to support the cause. And who knows, maybe you just got your breakfast served by a future Broadway star ;)

Del Franco Grill The surroundings are more like a bar than a restaurant, but the service was great, the food was fantastic and my husband got a Cheesecake Creme Brulé - his favorite two dessert put together in one.

This blog is about....

My recent trip to New York gave me the inspiration to start this blog. What a city! With so much life, great restaurants, culture and fashion. All of my favorite things in one place.
New York - the inspiration for this blog

My ultimate interests is fashion and has been form a young age. Like many women out there I live and breathe fashion — when I shop, read magazines, put together an outfit or browse the internet for the latest trends — that is when I'm in my place, I'm in my element and I want to share the joy and excitement with my friends. That is why I want to share my fashion and my closet with you.

This blog will mainly be about fashion, but fashion is not everything in my live. I am married to a wonderful man and we have two beautiful girls and a chihuahua dog. Therefore there will also be room for all the girly stuff in our lives on this blog as well. And of course my second favorite thing beside fashion, that I share with my husband, which is good food and baking.

Hope you will enjoy this as much as I will :)
